LEATHER CARE

TAKING CARE OF YOUR RUGGED HIDE LEATHER PRODUCTS

Oran Leather, creators of Rugged Hide, offer classically designed leather products that are authentically styled. Handcrafted by skilled artisans using various finishing techniques, our vintage-look leather exhibits a unique, long-lasting, and beautiful finish.

Please note that any imperfections, creases, colour shades, or irregularities in the leather and colour should be seen as features of quality and authenticity, not defects. Like all natural products, the leather may change with age, adding character and charm.

To keep your bag looking its best, we recommend using high-quality leather polishing or cleaning products. Spot check the product beforehand to ensure it does not rub off on the leather. While there are various products available on the market, we haven't tested them all and cannot recommend a specific brand. Simply use a gentle touch with a microfiber cloth to wipe off dirt and dust from the leather.

Remember to avoid excessive and vigorous rubbing, as well as exposure to heat and direct sunlight, especially the harsh New Zealand sun, which may fade the color of the leather. Leather is permeable, so it's best to avoid contact with makeup, grease, and liquids, including rain, as they can leave stains.

Our leathers have different finishes and characteristics. For example, "Naked" leathers, like the RH-10498, may fade sooner in direct sunlight and absorb grease and oil marks. With "Oily" leathers, colour bleeding or migrating may occur, and natural oils and waxes used in the tanning process could stain light-colored garments. Please be aware of these special characteristics, and for the first few wears, it is recommended to wear darker clothing to allow any excess oils to be rubbed off.

Here are a few rules, suggestions, and recommendations for caring for your Oran Leather and Rugged Hide products:

  1. Rule Number 1: Avoid direct sunlight! Sunlight can dry, crack, age, and fade leather. UV rays draw out moisture and dislocate natural oils, causing irreversible damage.

  2. Rule Number 2: Avoid excess heat and dampness. If leather gets wet, let it dry slowly at room temperature. If leather gets too dry, apply a light leather dressing or cream made from natural ingredients.

  3. Rule Number 3: Be gentle. Use a damp microfiber cloth to wipe off dirt, avoiding soaps or foreign substances. Do not rub excessively.

  4. Rule Number 4: Carry the right amount. Leather stretches and will not shrink back. Avoid overfilling wallets or stretching bags when wet or humid.

  5. Rule Number 5: Let it breathe. Avoid wrapping leather products in plastic. Keep them in well-ventilated areas or use moisture absorbers to prevent mildew.

  6. Rule Number 6: Keep it off the floor. Avoid placing your bag on the floor, especially in public toilets, as it can collect dirt and germs.

We recommend using a good quality water and stain repellent on your Oran Leather or Rugged Hide bag at the time of purchase and regularly thereafter.

Please note that irresponsible treatment of the product may result in damage, and Oran Leather cannot be held responsible for such occurrences. Take care of your leather products, and they will age gracefully, becoming cherished companions on your journeys.
